7 Ways to Cure Your People-Pleasing Tendencies

Dealing with narcissistic people without proper tools can have a devasting impact on one’s life. If you are dealing with someone you believe is a narcissist try these tips.

  1. Don't take it personally: Remember that the person's behavior is a result of their disorder and not a reflection of your worth as a person. Try not to take their words or actions to heart.

  2. Practice self-care: It's important to take care of yourself both physically and emotionally when dealing with someone who has NPD. This can include activities such as exercise, meditation, and spending time with supportive friends and family.

  3. Seek support: It can be helpful to talk to a therapist or counselor about your experiences with the person who has NPD. They can provide support and guidance on how to cope with the challenges of the disorder.

  4. Learn about the disorder: Understanding more about narcissistic personality disorder can help you make sense of the person's behavior and reactions. It can also help you predict their behavior in certain situations and help you to be prepared.

  5. Don't engage in arguments or try to change the person: Narcissistic individuals are often resistant to change and can become defensive or aggressive when confronted. It's important to remember that you cannot change or "fix" someone else's disorder.

  6. Consider cutting ties: In some cases, the best way to cope with a person who has NPD may be to limit or end your contact with them. This can be difficult but it can also be necessary for your own well-being.

  7. Set boundaries: It's important to establish clear boundaries with a person who has NPD. Let them know what behavior is and isn't acceptable to you and stick to those boundaries.
